ATVA Statement: Fox Blackout “Really Painful” for News Corp Execs What About the 3 Million Blacked Out Households?
Nov 9, 2010
“Earlier today in a Bloomberg story, News Corp. executive Chase Carey complained that last month’s blackout of Fox was “really painful” and blamed the government for causing the problem. The real pain was felt by 3 million households that missed the baseball playoffs, part of the World Series, multiple NFL games, and local news and weather. And the real reason that Fox could pull the plug on viewers is the government created artificial market that gives broadcasters a clear edge in negotiations. The FCC and Congress need to step in to fix this outdated system to protect consumers and bring back a free market.”
