Bipartisan Interest in Congress for Retrans Reform
House Subcommittee Members Raise Issue During Satellite Rules Hearing
WASHINGTON D.C. February 14, 2013 — The American Television Alliance (ATVA) applauds Chairman Greg Walden (R-Ore.) and the House Communications Subcommittee for yesterday’s “Satellite 101” hearing, which shed light on some important rules governing the telecommunications industry, including retransmission consent. We are particularly pleased that members of the Subcommittee from both parties expressed interest in the retrans issue during yesterday’s hearing. Even the National Association of Broadcasters, which has a history of dismissing any discussion of retrans, chose to raise the issue in its testimony.
We welcome the discussion of retrans reform and look forward to future hearings on that and other video issues. We simply seek a level playing field for consumers, as there have been significant changes in the video marketplace in the last 21 years.
