Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee Shows Leadership at Upcoming Hearing
ATVA supports Committee’s consideration of Cable Act 20 years later
Washington D.C. July 23, 2012 – The American Television Alliance (ATVA) commends the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation Chairman John Rockefeller, IV (D-WV) and Ranking Member Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) for scheduling this Tuesday’s hearing entitled, “The Cable Act at 20,” which will focus on the impact of the 1992 Cable Act on today’s TV marketplace.
ATVA recognizes the important work being done in the Senate on the issue of retransmission consent reform and applauds Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) for introducing legislation that seeks to reform the 1992 Cable Act.
Tuesday’s hearing is the latest in a string of congressional hearings that have demonstrated the need to address 20-year-old legislation that no longer reflects the realities of the modern video marketplace. ATVA applauds lawmakers who believe the time is now to address outdated regulations. We look forward to the Senate hearing this week and encourage the Committee to begin the process to change antiquated rules and protect consumers from further harm.
