Not a Free Market When Government Tips the Scales
WASHINGTON, D.C. October 3, 2011 The National Association of Broadcaster’s panicky plea to the FCC on retransmission consent is not based on a true story. Outdated rules give broadcasters numerous regulatory and statutory advantages, creating an artificial market for negotiations. If broadcasters are so committed to local viewers, they wouldn’t black out local news and weather during tropical storms. It’s high time for Congress and the FCC to balance the scales, reform the rules and protect consumers.
